The Basics
So, what should you know before you even begin your search? You need to…
Be Ambitious. "It takes a hungry student to find an internship. They have to try really hard and not take no for an answer," says Lauren.
Apply -- a lot. Applying to just one or two internships will get you nowhere, Lauren says. "The mistake that most students make is that they apply for one internship, they get rejected, and another internship doesn't come around. Keep applying."
Start Small. You can't expect to get your dream internship right away if you're applying with little or no experience. "Look outside your front door and start local," says Lauren. "Find local businesses that are similar but on a smaller scale to your dream companies and apply there first."
Do Multiple Internships. The more internships the better, but Lauren suggests that students have between 2-3 internships on their resumés by the time they graduate college. "Nobody needs 15 internships like me!" Phew!
