Should High School Administrators Censor Student Newspapers?

When the editors of Volcano published a photo of a student burning the American flag on the cover of the school newspaper, the high school's administration were in uproar. They called it "bad journalism," "offensive" and said the students were "immature."

"The paper's done," said Milan Woollard, Shasta High principal. "There is not going to be a school newspaper next year." The school was thinking about cutting the school paper already due to funding problems, and the principal said this cover cements the decision.

The editorial, written by Conner Kennedy, says a person has the right to burn a flag and explains that these actions are protected under the First Amendment. Administrators at the school agree and say the students have the right to run a photo of their choice, but this decision shows poor judgment.

What do you think: Should the administration have final say in the paper's content?
