"This weirdo in my class keeps asking me out!"
You Said:
"The weirdest kid in my class has a crush on me and everybody knows it! He asks me to all the dances and out on the weekend, but I say NO every time. I can't get him to leave me alone, and all the guys make fun of me and call him my boyfriend, ew. Is there a nice way to say, 'leave me alone'? Please help!!!!!!!"
We Say:
OK, the fact that you're calling him the "weirdest kid" in your class leads us to believe he's probably not the coolest of classmates and might be a little awkward around girls. So before you break his skinny heart, realize that it took a lot of guts to ask your pretty self out in the first place. That being said, just because he put himself out there, you shouldn't feel mean saying "no thanks." (Sometimes girls feel guilty and end up saying "sure, I'll go out with you" to guys they're genuinely not interested in. It ends up hurting the guy more when you finally call it off, so just be upfront from the beginning.)
One question: Have you been really clear about why you're not interested? If you've pulled the "I'm not ready to date right now" card or the "I have a boyfriend in another state" excuse, he might not see that as a rejection. Be completely honest without being overly harsh. Take him aside (not in front of all your friends!) and let him know you're really not interested. Let him know you think he's a nice guy, but he's just not your type. Make sure you're kind, but very brief. If he still doesn't get it, you may need to move to a different school or get a boyfriend ASAP. J/K. Just continue to deny him until he takes your not-so subtle hints.
