"He's going to prom with someone else!"

"My boyfriend is going to prom…WITHOUT me! I'm a sophomore, and our class isn't allowed to attend, so his friend asked him to go. I know they are only friends, and he should enjoy his prom, but I'm really upset that I found out about this from someone else. He could have given me a heads up, like, "Hey, since we are dating and all, would it be okay IF I WENT TO PROM WITH ANOTHER GIRL?!" Should this bother me?"

OK, breathe. We know you're really bummed that your boyfriend is going with his best girlfriend, but you can't blame him for wanting to experience his Senior Prom. When you date someone a little older, you've gotta expect this stuff to come up. However, we do give you permission to blame him for being sneaky about it. Maybe he was just nervous to tell you, or maybe he has some feelings for this friend of his (P.S. we hope it's option A). Bottom line: He should have told you.

Here are our tips for handling this sitch gracefully:
1) Chat with your BF and tell him you want him to have fun at prom, but he should have been straight with you from the beginning.
2) If your parents are cool with it, make plans to hang out with everyone post-prom.
3) Get glammed up and head over to his house while the crew is taking pics -- it'll prove how cool and calm you are about the whole thing.
4) Make plans with your pals for prom night -- that way you won't mope around, freaking out about corsages and slow dances.
5) Trust your boyfriend. If he's never given you a reason to doubt him, then you've got nothing to worry about!
