"Holidays are hell at my house."
You Said:
"Every time my entire extended family gets together for a holiday, the afternoon always ends in a major blow-up. Happy family reunion it is definitely not. There has been political debate drama, old family issues dredged up, fights over better recipes -- you name it, these crazies argue about it. How do I get everyone to maintain this Thanksgiving?"
We Say:
One way to solve this problem? Tell everyone to stay home. Seriously.
You can try to keep the peace, but it’s not within your power to control how people act. Tell your parents that you can’t take another holiday with relatives at each other’s throats. It doesn’t really scream holiday cheer. Hopefully your ‘rents will understand.
Not including the relative offenders may seem like an anti-Thanksgiving kind of move, but it might give them a much-needed wake up call. Have your parents explain to cranky Uncle Colin and nasty Nanna that your fam needed a break from the usual drama. Next year, you’ll invite everyone again if they promise to try and remain calm and collected.
