"She stood up for me and told the truth!"
I go to a really competitive school where everything is cutthroat. It's a pretty stressful environment, and at times people resort to cheating because they are so overwhelmed with work. My three best friends and I all took biology together freshman year, and I was aware that they had spent the entire year cheating off of each other on homework assignments, quizzes, and tests. People in the class caught wind of the scandal and told the dean that the four of us were involved, even though I had nothing to do with it. I couldn't believe it when my friends didn't let me off the hook -- they must have thought that adding me into the mix would relieve some of the blame on them. I tried convincing the dean that I had nothing to do with the incident, but nobody seemed to believe me. One of my friends finally stepped up to the plate and admitted that I hadn't been cheating, even though the other girls begged her not to do it. I was hurt that it took her long to stick up for me, but I'm glad that she finally gathered the courage to do what was right. We're not friends with the other two girls anymore -- it's sad that the whole episode drew us apart, but at least now I know who my real friends are.
