Skin Woe: Flakey, Dry Skin and Scalp

Itchy, flakey skin is uncomfy! "The most common cause is when the air becomes dry and lacks humidity. This is especially true in winter," says Santa Monica, CA Dermatologist Paul Yamauchi. The derm-doc adds that you shouldn't take "long or frequent baths or showers." To get rid of dryness, Dr. Y advises "to constantly moisturize the skin. The best time is after a bath or shower. The drier your skin, the more thick and greasy a moisturizer should be." He recommends CeraVe, Eucerin, and Aquaphor. We love anything with lactic acid! Also, face masks can help a bunch. For that flakey scalp? Dr. Y says it's caused by "dryness and a fungus called pityrosporum ovale (everyone has [it])," so grab Nizoral, T-Gel, or T-Sal shampoos at the drugstore.
