Meet the Wise Guy. He’s got advice to give and questions to answer, so send in any and all problems concerning the opposite sex. What makes him so qualified? He’s been a boy his whole life, so he knows exactly what’s going through your crush, boyfriend, or best-guy-friend’s dumbhead. Ask him!

I'm so confused! Me and this guy were hanging out, and he was super sweet to me when it was just the two of us. We didn't mess around or anything, but we definitely flirted. I thought he was interested, but then I ran into him at a party, and he totally ignored me! What's up? - Kristin

I have a question for you: Does this guy have a girlfriend, and if so, was she standing next to him at the party? As flirtatious as he was when you were first hanging out, you probably didn’t get a chance to learn much about him. His GF status is information he might not have wanted to volunteer right away -- especially if he thought you were cute! (Guys are dogs like that — to us, flirting isn’t cheating, it’s practice.)

On the other hand, maybe he was with his chess team buddies at the party, and he knew they wouldn’t approve of him associating with a goth girl. I’m just speculating here — I’ve never met you and I don’t know how many piercings you have, but you know what I’m getting at.

Here’s the deal: If a guy is really interested in you (and just as importantly, available), he’ll show it in any situation, no matter who’s watching. But who knows, maybe he had a lot on his mind that night, or was so nervous to see you again that he became tongue-tied. So I’d give the guy one more chance. Get in touch with him, tell him you liked hanging out and want to do it again soon — in a public place, where you could potentially be spotted by other people. If he acts skeevy, something is definitely wrong, and you’re better off not wasting your time.
