OK, so if he's wearing a wristwatch, you can ask him what time it is. Yes, we know it sounds lame. And we've gotten laughed at by our BFFs for using this line, but dang-it -- it works! It's a practical question, and if he returns your smile, it can open the door to other questions and, in turn, a conversation. So there. (j/k!).
